POSITION SUMMARY

The Content Writer, Stewardship and Impact is a member of the Creative Content and Communication department. In this role, you will create compelling copy, edit, and contribute to concept development, managing the production of communications in support of the organization's fundraising, stewardship, engagement, and impact reporting activities. You will produce a variety of materials such as fundraising proposals, donor impact and annual reports, and donor impact stories.

In this role, you will:

  • Write compelling copy, edit, proofread, and manage the production of communications that include, but are not limited to, donor impact stories, gift proposals, case statements, campaign materials, impact reports, annual and endowment reports, acknowledgements, and donor recognition.
  • Collaborate with creative staff and colleagues to guide donor impact stories, impact reports, and proposal projects, and provide editorial expertise.
  • Generate story leads and write, edit, and proofread features about the impact of philanthropy. Interview alumni, donors, faculty, students, and others.
  • Serve as the lead liaison to editorial staff across UConn for donor impact stories.
  • Develop and manage process for donor impact stories, gift impact reports, and major gift proposal requests. Recommend messages, themes, and story ideas that align with the Foundation's mission and priorities for fundraising and engagement and are in support of UConn's academic, research, patient care, and public service missions.
  • Contribute to project and impact communication strategy-building in collaboration with Senior Director of Donor Relations & Stewardship and Creative Content and Communication team leader.
  • Track projects using project management system. Must be organized, responsible for meeting deadlines, and deliver high-quality content.
  • Work closely with Creative Content and Communication team Project Manager.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge and understanding of the mission, strategic plans, priorities, and operations of the Foundation, the University, and the Because of UConn Campaign.
  • Contribute creative ideas to the Creative Content and Communication team to further achieving the goals of the Because of UConn Campaign.
  • Always model and articulate the Foundation's organizational core values.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Engagement

Collaborate with Donor Relations & Stewardship and Creative Content and Communication team members, Principal Gift Stewardship, and Advancement colleagues to steward donors, celebrate and recognize donors, convey impact, and support campaigns specific to the department.

Leadership

Provide visible leadership across the entire organization by engaging in organization-wide activities such as departmental meetings, all-staff meetings, and staff events.

  • Demonstrate exceptional editing, proofreading, copy editing, and writing skills. Have a proven track record of writing and copy-editing persuasive copy.
  • Be familiar with the use of computers, digital asset management systems, and information management tools, such as CRMs (Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Libris, Blackbaud).
  • Be able to handle multiple tasks, to assess and order priorities, and to track details in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be able to work independently and collaboratively with internal and external partners.
  • Be able to engender trust and confidence of donors and prospective donors and to maintain confidentiality of donor information; be able to represent the UConn Foundation to prospects, donors, faculty, administrators, and others.
  • Demonstrate attention to and concern for others.
  • Be able to work to the demands of the position, which may exceed a 40-hour work week.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in liberal arts, communication sciences, journalism, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience producing creative, impactful, and well-executed content in a higher education, non-profit, or corporate marketing environment.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office suite, digital asset management systems, and donor management systems.

Salary:

The expected salary for this position is $72,000+. It will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also placing an emphasis on internal equity.
