Overview
- Organization and Planning: Keep everything in the house well-organized. Schedule repairs, manage staff, plan events, and ensure every part of the house runs smoothly.
- Communication Skills: Be a great listener and talker. A HM should understand what the couple needs and explain things clearly to them and the house staff.
- Flexibility and Problem-Solving: Be ready for surprises and solve problems quickly. Sometimes things don’t go as planned, so you need to think fast and fix things.
- Privacy and Trust: Keep the couple’s private life secret. They must trust you completely with their home and personal information.
- Proactive Anticipation: Be one step ahead. Understand what needs to be done next without being told. This means "reading the play," or seeing what's likely to happen, and acting on it.
Responsibilities
- Property Maintenance : Regular upkeep and repairs of the home and other properties, including seasonal adjustments and improvements.
- Vehicle Maintenance : Oversees the care, maintenance, and scheduling of services for all family vehicles.
- Staff Management : Hiring, training, and managing household staff such as cleaners, gardeners, and other personnel.
- Event Planning and Coordination : Organizes family events, parties, or gatherings, managing logistics, catering, and guest arrangements.
- Financial Oversight : Manages budgets for household expenses, oversees payments for services and staff, and handles bills.
- Calendar and Schedule Management : Coordinates family schedules, manages sports events, and ensures timely attendance for all members.
- Grocery and Household Supply Management : Keeps track of and restocks groceries, household supplies, and other essentials.
- Pet Care : Manages care for pets, veterinary appointments, and grooming.
- Deep Cleaning and Maintenance : Oversees deep cleaning of the house (to be done by weekly cleaner), including organizing and decluttering various spaces.
- Laundry Management : Manages all laundry operations, including washing, drying, and organizing clothes.
- Daily Tidiness and Housekeeping : Ensures daily cleaning tasks like making beds, doing dishes, and tidying rooms are completed.
- Meal Preparation : Handles grocery shopping, meal prep, and kitchen organization.
- Administrative Tasks : Manages mail, scans important documents, and handles other administrative duties.
- Errand Running : Performs necessary errands such as grocery shopping, visits to the post office, and handling returns.
- Kids' Schedules and Needs : Manages kids’ schedules, prepares snacks and lunches, ensuring all their daily needs are met.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in estate or household management, including oversight of multiple properties
- Background in staff supervision, hiring, and vendor coordination
- Strong administrative and organizational skills
- Prior experience managing household budgets and handling expense reporting
- Event planning and hospitality experience (private events, holidays, hosting)
- Knowledge of home systems and property maintenance (HVAC, landscaping, security, etc.)
- Familiarity with luxury household standards and service expectations
- High level of discretion, trustworthiness, and respect for privacy
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record; comfortable managing and maintaining vehicles
- Comfortable preparing meals, organizing groceries, and maintaining kitchen cleanliness
- Skilled at managing laundry, household tidiness, and wardrobe organization
- Ability to oversee deep cleaning schedules and ensure cleanliness standards are met
- Organized in managing closets, pantries, garage, attic, and seasonal rotations
- Competent with tech tools for document scanning, digital file organization, and household system tracking
- Comfortable using shared platforms for inventory, budgeting, and communication
- Familiar with smart home devices and willing to coordinate with tech vendors if needed
