Job Summary Responsible for collecting and processing blood specimens from patients for laboratory testing. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions Draw blood for tests, transfusions, donations, or research. Explain procedures to patients and assist with adverse reactions. Dispose of contaminated sharps following applicable laws and policies. Draw blood using vacuum tube, syringe, or butterfly venipuncture methods. Dispose of biohazardous materials properly. Perform dermal puncture, such as heel or finger stick methods. Enter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer systems. Qualifications Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required. No experience in lieu of degree accepted. Licenses and Credentials Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License [State License] preferred. MGH Security RMV Check/Registry of Motor Vehicles Driving Report preferred. Experience None required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of specimen collection techniques. Familiarity with HIPAA and OSHA regulations. Effective communication skills, empathy, and respect for patient privacy. Proficiency in aseptic techniques to prevent injury.
